Cordova

In Shelby County, Tennessee, just east of Memphis is the matchless community of Cordova. Home to approximately 80,000 people, this beautiful area is a wonderful place to purchase a home. Hemmed in by Germantown to the south, and Bartlett to the north, Cordova has around 33,500 residential properties within its borders and they come in all shapes and sizes. Originally a farming village known as Allentown, then renamed Dexter, the city now known as Cordova was founded in 1835 and was then well-known for its freshly cut flowers.

Cordova continues to thrive, with a great deal of growth and development along Macon Road and Houston Levee Road. As Cordova flourishes, the luxuries and conveniences available to its residents also expand. For example, residents immensely enjoy the commercial centers on Germantown Parkway. There are abundant opportunities for shopping, dining and recreation there and elsewhere in Cordova as well as the surrounding communities. Another comfort residents appreciate is the excellent education provided for their children. Students in Cordova attend Shelby County Schools. In Cordova those schools include 4 elementary schools, 3 middle schools and 2 high schools, though there a number of private schools available also.

This exceptional city celebrates and preserves its past with annual community events enjoyed by residents and visitors alike. You won’t want to miss their July 4th parade or the crafts fair. There are also a number of historic sites, museums and other attractions to appreciate, such as the Cordova Community Center. Built in 1913 and listed in the National Register of Historic Places, the Community Center, formerly the Cordova Elementary School, is currently used to host community events and classes. Another must-see is Cordova Station, a one-room train station in downtown Cordova, once used by the Nashville Chattanooga and St. Louis railroad. In addition to the historic and culturally significant attractions, residents enjoy sports and leisure also, which is why the Bert Ferguson Community Center, which houses multiple athletic fields, a banquet hall and walking trail, is so popular among the locals. Whatever it is you are looking for in a new home, Cordova has it.
